Hiking on 4/29/17(Sat)

Sunol Regional Wilderness on 4/29/2017(Sat).
We start from Indian Joe Nature Trail then Indian Creek Trail uphill to Crave Rock Road, then High Valley Road, Flag Hill Road to Flag Hill.  We will go downhill from Flag Hill Road, Hayfield Road back to Parking area.  The whole trip is about 4.3 miles with gentle climbing slope.
We will meet in front of the “foot bridge” next to the Visitor Center.  We will start at 1:30pm.  Please come on or before 1:15pm.
Direction:
1. Connect to freeway I-680.
2. Take the Calaveras Rd/CA-84 W exit toward Sunol
3. Continue on Calaveras Rd. for 4.2 miles to Geary Rd
4. Turn left to Geary Rd. for 2 miles to reach the Sunol Regional Wilderness
The park entrance fee is $5, and you can also ask for a map there.  The parking lot at the Visitor Center is small.  If you cannot find any parking space there.  Just drive ahead.  There are a lots of Parking spaces ahead.
What to bring:
1. A signed waiver form.  (You can download here. http://www.ncuaanc.org/nccuaa-nc-waiver-form/ )
2. Plenty of water, snacks;
3. A hat and a light jacket; (Sunscreen lotion)
4. Sport shoes; (Hiking boots and hiking pole are recommended)

Let’s start our first hiking event in 2017 with an easy one.
It will be a leisure walk  on  San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail at Santa Clara.   We start  from the section  at  Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club,  and walk north to the Baylands Park, and back to our parking area.    The whole trip is about 5 miles.
Start time: 1:30pm
Meeting Place :   in  front of the multi-level parking of the golf club  at  5155 Stars and Stripes Dr, Santa Clara, CA 95054 .
Direction:
1. Take CA237  or  Hwy101
2.  Exit the Great America Parkway
3. Drive toward Tasman Drive
4. Turn to the Tasman Drive of the side with  Levis Stadium
5. Turn left to Stars and  Stripes Dr.
What to bring:
·        A signed Waiver Form, you can download a copy here :
·        A jacket, and a rain coat.
·        Plenty of water, snack.
·        Sport shoes.

Hiking, 8/20/16 (Sat) @Redwood Regional Park, Oakland

We will meet at the Stream Trail head next to the last parking lot at 11:30am.  We then have a leisure walk for 0.9 mile to the “Trail End” picnic area for a picnic before continue our hiking.  If you don’t want to join our picnic, come to the picnic area to meet us before 1:00pm.

We will continue the Stream Trail at 1:00pm for 1.3 miles to reach the Girls’ Camp.  We will begin to walk up to the hill for about 300ft. in 0.42 mile.  We then take the West Ridge Trail to French Trail downhill to Tres Sendas Trail back to the Stream Trail.  We take the Stream Trail back to Parking area.  The whole route is about 5.8 miles including 0.9 mile to picnic area.  We should be able to finish it around 4:30pm.

For people want to have a shorter route, they can return to Parking lot from Girls’ Camp on the Stream Trail.  This roundtrip route is about 4.4 miles.

Direction:

Use your best route to I580, take I580 to CA-13. Take the Exit-1 for Carson St./Redwood Rd.  Follow Redwood Rd. for 3.4 miles to the park.

What to bring:

  • A signed waiver form. (you can get one from nccuaanc.org)
  • A light lunch for picnic.
  • Plenty of water. (water fountains are available in the picnic area).
  • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion (even 80% of the route is shaded).

Hiking on 6/11/16(Sat), Tolman Peak

Tolman Peak @ Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park, Union City

Meeting Time: 1:15pm

We will meet at the parking lot at the end of May Road, Union City.   We will start at 1:30pm from the May Trail to the Tolman Peak Trail uphill with elevation gain about 700 ft..  We then take the South Fork Trail downhill back to the Tolman trail to the Parking Lot.   The whole route is about 4.6 miles.  This route should be rated as “easy to moderate” with about half mile slope climbing.   (If you are late, get a map and follow the said route above to catch us.)

There is a Dry Creek Garden at the trail head.  If you have not been there, I recommend you to come earlier to visit it.  Spare about an hour to enjoy the blooming of the seasonal flowers here.  It is open to the public with free of charge.

Directions:

From I-880, exit at Whipple Road in Hayward/Union City and head east toward the hills. When you reach Mission Blvd., continue straight onto May Road.

From I-580 eastbound (Oakland, Berkeley, etc.), take the I-238 exit and keep left for downtown Hayward. Continue onto Foothill Blvd for about 2 miles. Take a slight left onto Mission Blvd. Follow Mission Blvd for about 5.5 miles and then turn left onto May Road in Union City.

From I-580 westbound (Tri-Valley Area), take the Strobridge Avenue exit. At the end of the ramp turn right onto Strobridge Avenue. At the first stop light turn left onto Castro Valley Blvd. Follow Castro Valley Blvd under the freeway and then turn left onto Foothill Blvd. Continue on Foothill Blvd. for about 2 miles. Take a slight left onto Mission Blvd. Follow Mission Blvd for about 5.5 miles and then turn left onto May Road.

From I-680, take I-238/Mission Blvd exit, then take north to Union City.  For about 7.5 miles, May Road is at your right hand side, which is right opposite to the Whipple Road.

April Hiking, 4/17/16(Sunday)

Alameda Creek Trail to Quarry Lake Park

Start time: 1:30pm

Gathering time : 1:15pm (4/17/2016)

Meeting Place : Niles Staging Area parking lot at Old Canyon Road, Fremont.

This is a Sunday event on 4/17/2016.  It is a leisure walk about 6 miles with no slope climbing.  We start at 1:30pm and should finish it before 5:00pm.

We will start from the trail head at Niles Staging Area. We walk along the south band of the trail to reach the Sequoia Bridge, then enter to the Quarry Lake Park.   We walk along the lake side and exist from the East entrance of the Park, then take the north bank of the trail back to the Niles Staging Area

What to bring:

  1. The signed waiver form. (you can download one from http://www.ncuaanc.org/nccuaa-nc-waiver-form)
  2. Plenty of water, snacks.
  3. Hat, sun glass, sun screen, a light jacket.
  4. Leisure dress should be fine; hiking boots are recommended, but hiking pole is not necessary.

Directions :

  1. If you are from I680 south bound, take the CA84(Nines Canyon Road) towards Fremont. Before the Mission Blvd, turn left to the Old Canyon Road. After the bridge across the creek, the parking lot is at your left hand side.
  2. From I680 north bound, take the CA 238 (Mission Blvd) exit. Turn left to Mission Blvd. west. Turn right at the Niles Canyon Road.  Less than half mile, you need to turn right to Old Canon Road.  After crossing the bridge over the creek, the parking lot is at your left hand side.
  3. Hayward and Fremont local, take the 238(Mission Blvd), turn to Niles Canyon Road. Less than half mile, turn right to Old Canon Road.  After crossing the bridge, the parking lot is at your left hand side.
  4. From I880 south bound, from Oakland, take the exit of Mowry Blvd. Drive all the way down to Mission Blvd., turn left at Mission Blvd, then right to the Niles Canyon Road.  Less than half mile, you need to turn right to Old Canon Road.  After crossing the bridge, the parking lot is at your left hand side.
  5. From I880 north bound, from Milpitas/San Jose, take the exit of Stevenson Blvd. Drive all the way down to Mission Blvd., turn left to Mission Blvd. Turn right at the Niles Canyon Road. Less than half mile, you need to turn right to Old Canon Road.  After crossing the bridge, the parking lot is at your left hand side.

Coyote Hills Regional Park, Fremont, CA

To Reach the Park

Coyote Hills Regional Park is located at 8000 Patterson Ranch Road, Fremont, CA 94555. The park’s main entrance is at the west end of Patterson Ranch Road/Commerce Drive in Fremont. From I-880, take Highway 84 west, exit at Paseo Padre Parkway, turn right, and drive north about one mile. Turn left on Patterson Ranch Road. This is the park’s entrance road. The entrance fee is $5.

After driving through the entrance, drive about another half mile, and you will see the Quarry Staging Area in your left hand side.  It is the first parking lot after the entrance.  We will meet here, and start from here.

There is a free parking lot at the left hand side before the entrance.  You may park your car here and walk through the entrance, and walk along the Patterson Ranch Road about 15 minutes to our meeting place.  (You can also do your car pooling at here.)

We will start from the Bayview Trail.  We then take the Red Hill Trail uphill, then downhill to the Visitor Center, and return to the Parking lot. For people do not like to take any slope hiking, they can continue the Bayview Trail back to the parking lot.  The whole route is about 4 miles.  We should finish our event around 4:00pm.
